Day 19 Saturday, October 5 Bar Harbor Maine
Our stop today was Bar Harbor, the last stop in the USA leg of the journey. Bar Harbor is a beautiful little New England town on the coast at Frenchman Bay. It is a haven for tourists and put me in mind of Hawkeye from Mash and Crab Apple Cove. It is all about the lobsters that abound in the nearby waters. All the cafes and serve a variety of lobster inspired dishes, lobster rolls etc. Souvenirs also heavily feature the lobster theme.
We chose the excursion Bar Harbor by land and sea and headed out to sail in the Margaret Todd, a beautiful four masted schooner, along Frenchman's Bay for a scenic cruise, a feature of which was viewing all the colourful lobster pots deployed.
We were unable to complete the second portion of the tour to Acadia National Park as a withholding of a supply bill by the American upper house meant all government facilities including national parks were shut down until a supply bill could be passed. We spent the afternoon exploring this quaint little town
